An unusual and rarely grown variety, this grape originates from the Alpine valleys of North Eastern Italy.

The grapes are grown on a neighbouring farm less than 1 km away and were planted in 2003. The juice has deep purple pigmentation and very strong tannins, so no extended maceration is required before or after fermentation. Aging for 2 years is undertaken to transform the aggressive tannins into a smooth velvety mouth feel.

The wine has a distinctive cherry/fruitcake aroma, matched on the palate with flavours of dark chocolate and a deceptive length, it’s quite unlike any other varietal you will taste. With careful cellaring it will age and gain in complexity for many years.
